For Haiti Priorise Regional Youth Forums

Despite counting for roughly two-thirds of the population, youth perspectives are often absent from discussions and decisions about policies for Haiti. Haïti Priorise, using the analysis to be provided by economist researchers, from Haiti and abroad, will be traveling to each of the 10 departments to meet with youth leaders at leading universities throughout the country to discuss, analyze and propose a prioritized list of policies and interventions best suited to address the most critical problems.

Through these youth forums, youth leaders will learn the costs and benefits of interventions most important to them to deal with critical problems facing their regions. With engaged learning and new research, they will be able to rank solutions that will better their department, their community and their everyday lives.

Over the course of 10 weeks, starting in February 2017, youth leaders will meet at universities in Hinche, Gonaives, Cap-Haitien, Fort-Liberte, Port-de-Paix, Port-au-Prince, Miragoane, Jacmel, Les Cayes and Jeremie, to participate in prioritization exercises to propose their priorities for their regions. These youth leaders will review new evidence and discuss major opportunities and developments in their region to arrive at a prioritized list of interventions for their region.

After concluding the regional youth forums, two delegates representing each of the 10 departments will participate in a conference in Port-au-Prince to present their region’s list of priorities to their peers and take part in a final round of prioritization whose objective is to develop one final list of prioritized list of interventions.

In preparation for these regional youth forums, Haïti Priorise, beginning with the city of Hinche in October 2016, traveled to meet with youth organizers and visit leading universities in each department to learn more about the relevant issues and opportunities.
