The Post 2015 Consensus has today released a new analysis of the draft goals being considered in the 11th session of the Open Working Group (OWG). These preliminary results rank all the draft goals from "phenomenal" to "poor", based on economic evidence, and will be distributed at the OWG session running from May 5th-9th. The report in its entirety can be accessed here.
In addition to the draft goal analysis, we are also co-hosting an official side event to the OWG, along with the Permanent Missions to the UN of the Netherlands, Viet Nam and Mexico. The event, to be held on May 8th at UN Headquarters in New York, is titled "Using Economic Evidence to Identify the Most Effective SDG Goals and Targets."
Dr. Lomborg, Director of the Copenhagen Consensus Center, will make a presentation at the event, based on the results of our analysis mentioned above. Opening remarks will be provided by H.E. Mr. Le Hoai Trung, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, and the moderator will be Peter van der Vliet, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the United Nations. Panelists will include Mr. Nikhil Seth, Director of UN-DESA's Division for Sustainable Development, Mr. Damaso Luna, Deputy Director General for Global Affairs from the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Guido Schmidt-Traub, Executive Director of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
