Youth Forum Mexico
Four Post-2015 Consensus Youth Forums were held by various youth and student groups in Mexico. Together these forums engaged 109 young people living in Mexico.
The first forum in Mexico was held at El Colegio de la Frontera Norte in Queretaro with 33 participants, who after learning more about the costs and benefits of potential targets for the post-2015 development agenda, chose the following as phenomenal targets for the United Nations to prioritize.
• Reduce child malnutrition
• Universal access to contraception
• Open world markets food and textiles
• Reduce assaults
• Make beneficial ownership info public
• Allow more migration
The second forum was held at Universidad Autónoma de la Ciudad de México in Mexico City and brought together 11 young people. The second forum chose the following targets as phenomenal priorities.
• More health spending for the 1 Bn. poorest
• Increase women’s economic opportunities
• Reduce corruption and bribery
• Prevent loss of coral reefs
The third forum was held at La Comision Nacional de Derechos Humano in Mexico City with the members of the youth group Jovenes LGBT Mexico. This forum brought together 39 young people to learn about the costs and benefits of potential targets for the post-2015 development agenda. Afterwards they ranked the following as phenomenal investments to prioritize.
• Universal access to contraception
• Eliminate violence against women and girls
• Double HIV medication
• Reduce child malnutrition
• Ensure women’s rights to own and inherit
• Prevent loss of coral reefs
• Increase women’s economic opportunities
• More male circumcision against HIV
• Allow more migration
• Reduce assaults
• Eliminate violence in child discipline
• More health spending for the 1 Bn. poorest
• Phase out fossil fuel subsidies
• Enhance female education
• Halve malaria infections
• Reduce forest loss
• Open world markets food and textiles
• Better access to water for 2.3 Bn. people
• Double renewable energy
• Cut TB deaths 95%
The final youth forum was held at El Colegio de la Frontera Norte in Tijuana. 26 students participated in the final youth forum. Together they ranked the following as their top priorities for the post-2015 development agenda.
• Universal access to contraception
• Eliminate violence against women and girls
• Reduce child malnutrition
• Enhance female education
• Allow more migration
• Increase women’s economic opportunities
• Double renewable energy
• Increase skilled worker migration
• Better access to water for 2.3 Bn. people
