GSK and Save the Children have established a five-year partnership focused on child mortality. While welcoming the inclusion of preventable maternal, newborn and infant deaths in the proposed targets, they feel that, if there is to be just one health goal, it should also capture health service coverage and system strengthening. Inequities within countries should also be prioritized. They also make specific criticisms of the research paper. They find it unclear as to whether or not it is responding to existing proposals and also see the discussion section as weak, without making a strong case for the alternative goals. Neither is there any discussion of how the funding gap should be filled.
